A scientifc project funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology | 2018-2022
About the project
The MEDCRAFTS project intends to study the regulations of crafts activities in late medieval Portugal, in the 14th and 15th centuries, through the analysis of several Portuguese towns, from different regions (Braga, Guimarães, Porto, Coimbra, Santarém, Lisbon, Évora, Setúbal, Loulé and other towns of Algarve), in a comparative perspective.
The project intends to promote:

an integrated vision of regulation systems and social practices in their historical context
-
a comparative approach to determine similarities and specificities between different regions and towns
-
a focus on the relations between craftsmen and public authorities
-
an holistic analysis including all forms of craft’s regulations (statutes, ordinances, judicial sentences, etc.)
